Twitter has been around for a few years and it has finally happened. Advertisers are paying to advertise to your twitter following. Sponsored Tweets launched recently. And like most people that spend a lot of time on twitter, I had to check it out. Sponsored Tweets is a creation of the guys at Izea, in Orlando.
The concept is simple. By accessing your Twitter account, Sponsored Tweets can match you with with a potential advertiser that will send a tweet from your account. Sponsored Tweets allows you to set your price. As I was checking it out, I set my charge per tweet at $5.24 each and .015 per click.
Within 30 minutes of setting up my account, I had a advertiser. I had to log back into my account to accept their offer. Sponsored Tweets sent me a direct message on twitter to let me know that I had received $5.24 for the tweet. It seems easy enough. Sponsored Tweets has a payout minimum like most companies. Once you earn $50 USD, you can withdraw your earnings.
The biggest question is, how many companies will pay for Twitter advertising? If companies find success in Twitter, this could be the next wave of social media marketing and a great way for tweeters to add another line of income.

Do you have a chance to review the advertisment before it’s tweeted? Is this just something they control? Wondering if it get’s spammy? I heard of this and thought it was interesting for ones with mass followers. Thanks for sharing.
